10/10/10: 10 Demands to Save Coastal Zone from Climate Induced Disasters

350.org, TckTckTck, Avaaz and Oxfam, with many other organisations, have initiated 10 October 2010 as 10/10/10: Global Work Party for climate justice and local level initiative of adaptation and mitigation. Thousands of other organisations have organised more than 7000 programs in over 188 countries. Humanitywatch, Participatory Research and Action Network (PRAN), Songshoptaque and Uttaran organised three demonstrations under assistance of Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL) with 10 demands such as (i) Reduce GHG Emission, (ii) Compensate the Climate Victims (iii) Transfer Environment-friendly Technology (iv) Help to use Renewable Energy (v) Stop excessive use of Vehicles (vi) Reduce Use of Fossil Fuel (vii) Reduce Consumption (viii) Stop dumping in Poor Countries (ix) Allow the climate victims to migrate in developed countries and (x) Stop Talking, Start Working. All of the programs started on 10/10/10 10:10 AM.

Humanitywatch organised a model of Climate Change Process and Suffering of the rural poor people who are living in the coastal zone of Bangladesh and subjected to frequent and severe cyclone, storm surges, extreme salinity and riverbank erosion due to catastrophic climate change. PRAN organized a demonstration. 10 youngsters painted 10 demands on their naked body while hundreds of people participated in the demonstration. In Chittagong, Songshoptaque organized a procession and human chain where 10 youngsters wear black and red funeral clothes with 10 demands painted on the clothes.
